Frequently asked questions
Does compressing an image reduce its quality?
Compression with medium or high quality greatly reduces the size with hardly any visible difference. If you lower the quality a lot it does show, so we recommend starting at 0.7 and adjusting based on the result.
Why does WebP compress better?
WebP uses a more modern compression system than JPG, so for the same quality it usually produces noticeably lighter files. If the image is going to be used on a website, forcing the output to WebP is the option that saves the most space.
What is the maximum width for?
Many images are huge (for example 4000 px) when they are actually shown at a much smaller size. Reducing the maximum width cuts the size drastically while keeping the proportion. Leave it empty if you do not want to resize.
Are my images uploaded to the internet?
No. The whole compression happens inside your browser with a canvas. Your images never leave your computer nor are saved on any server.
